The Accommodation

Smithy House is a traditional old Galloway cottage, some 500 years old, which was carefully renovated and extended in 1997, with emphasis on retaining its character. Each bedroom has either en-suite or private bath or shower-room and is equipped with colour television, radio alarm, hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities and thermostatic radiator controls. The original character of the traditional cottage has been retained in the bedrooms.
The Douglas Room, which is in the original cottage, has a private shower room immediately adjacent and views over the loch to the front and the garden to the rear.

The sitting room, formerly the forge
There is a comfortable sitting room for the exclusive use of guests and a pleasant and well-furnished dining room, where breakfast, cooked in the Aga, is served. We are committed to the Natural Cooking of Scotland, which means that we aim to source the best fresh ingredients locally wherever possible, and in other cases from within Scotland. This is your opportunity to try traditional Scots oatmeal porridge, haggis, and locally raised and smoked bacon. Those who like fish may prefer to try our Galloway smoked kippers or haddock, or perhaps kedgeree made with either the traditional smoked haddock, or, for a touch of luxury, with locally smoked salmon.

Parking

There is a private drive leading to a car parking area close to the house.

Please note that, for the comfort of all, and in compliance with Scottish law, smoking is not permitted in the house.
We regret that we do not accept children under the age of 16 years, nor pets.
The Sexual Orientation Regulations came into force on 30th April 2007 and make it illegal for us to refuse to let a double-bedded room to two people of the same sex on the grounds of their sexual orientation. As Bible-believing Christians, this conflicts head-on with our Christian belief that a homosexual lifestyle is wrong and we cannot and will not let a double bedded room to such a couple. As we cannot compromise those beliefs, which are based on the Bible, we have reluctantly decided that the only course open to us is that, in future, the only accommodation offered for Bed & Breakfast purposes at Smithy House will be in twin bedded rooms.
